Even if you use an ocarina melody to slow things down, you’ve got a maximum of three hours to get your business done and escape back to Day 1. Termina will die in three days, but each in-game hour equates to 45 seconds in real life. But what makes Majora’s Mask 3D different is that you’re operating under a time limit. The basic game structure is standard Zelda series fare you complete a dungeon, load up on items, find hidden areas, collect heart pieces, etc. Termina is a massive place fully exploring even one section requires you to relive same days several times. Thanks to the Ocarina of Time he acquired in the previous game, he can travel back in time whenever he needs to…and he will. If the hero was anyone than Link, it’d be impossible. When it does, all the suffering and loss will be forgotten in the apocalypse. The moon is falling, and it’s going crash soon. They’re pretending that everything is still normal, that the sense of foreboding and desperation is just their imagination. In the middle of it all, the residents of Clock Town go about their daily lives. In the east, the ancient Ikana Kingdom is being slowly overrun by its undead subjects and rotting from the inside out. In the west, a family grieves for those lost in the Great Bay’s monster-infested waters. In the north, Snowhead’s idyllic springtime countryside has been ravaged by an endless winter storm, and its inhabitants are dying in the frozen wasteland. The Southern Swamp has been poisoned, and its holy temple is now in ruins. Armed with the dark power of Majora’s Mask, the Skull Kid wanders the land and corrupts everything in its path. Overall Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D is the definitive version of an already fantastic game.I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night… The music in this game has always been fantastic, but it would have been even more impressive if they had re-performed the music with a live orchestra, or recomposed it with newer software at least. You can pick out a lot more of the finer notes that would have been muddy on the N64, but they are still essentially the exact same tracks exported into the new game. Boss fights are a little more involved now, making use of both the primary transformation mask needed for the dungeon and human-form Link's abilities.Ĭons: This is more of a nitpick than an actual con, but i'll include it for the sake of a more balanced review - The music in the game is simply comprised of higher-fidelity remasterings of the tracks from the original N64 version of the game. Some of the boss fights have also been changed up a bit for the better. The touchscreen makes mask swapping quick and easy, and many other convenient control and UI improvements have been implemented that make this version a joy to play. The extra detail in all of the environments really brings the world of this 15-year-old game to life. Pros: This is one of the best-looking games on the 3DS. Overall Review: Please note, if you played the original, go into your options (after you choose your score, but before you press play) and change the swimming to "Inverted." That's how it was in the original, and it will throw you completely off when you get to the Zora part if you don't do it. That's the only thing I dislike about this remake. They could've at least made one that for each boss or looked different. They slapped the same exact visual weakness to all the bosses. This remake added many, many features and qualities to it improving its playability, mechanics, and to help people who have never played it understand.Ĭons: I think they could've tried a little harder with making the boss-fights more intuitive, as they were attempting to do. It's one of the few games of its time that makes you truly care for all the people in the game, plot characters or NPC. It might be the black sheep of the Zelda Family, but it's got some special qualities and emotions to it that set it apart in a great way. Pros: It was an excellent game when it came out, and this remake only emphasized how powerful and timeless this game is.
